Oct 29 – COVID-19 Update

Dear Sunshine Christian School Families,

We pray this letter finds you and your family healthy and well. Thank you to everyone for your continued
flexibility, teamwork, and willingness to do whatever it takes to continue helping our children learn and
grow. I just spoke with each one of our teachers and heard how this week’s online learning and Zoom
meetings went. We celebrate and thank you for helping this week’s online learning go smoothly and our
first week of Zoom meetings with our ‘at school’ students to be helpful and informative. The teachers
have enjoyed connecting with your child. Tests were even taken over Zoom and, more importantly, truth
from God’s word were presented.

It is not ideal, but it is wisest to stay online for another week. I will be watching the press conference
later tonight, but we expect stricter restrictions to be put in place. I am watching the hospital numbers
closely, speaking with medical personnel, and praying for wisdom and direction. I do not feel it is wise to return to school yet. It is our desire to keep staff, students, and their families as healthy and safe as
possible.

So, we will continue to learn online for another week. You will be receiving new lesson plans, access to
the week of Abeka teaching videos, and will continue to meet through Zoom with your child’s teacher at
the regularly scheduled time. If you have any questions, the office will be open from 10am-3pm Monday
through Friday as long as we are online. Thank you again for working with us as we maneuver through
these challenging waters. We praise the Lord for His continued protection, provision, and leading and
guiding.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord turn His face towards you and give you His peace.

Oct COVID-19 Update

Dear Sunshine Christian School Parents,

Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we maneuver through this year of challenges. As a response to this evening’s press report by the El Paso County Judge, we as a school have chosen (out of extreme caution and desire to help keep everyone healthy), to transition into online classes for this week. We know this is very short notice, but because the press conference has shown the number of hospital beds at 100% capacity and a 160% increase in positive Covid-19 cases since Oct 1st, we believe this is a wise decision. We understand the strain this will put on many of our families and did not make this decision lightly. Thank you for desiring to help keep everyone healthy and to do your part in stopping the spread of this virus.

You may stop by school for a drive by pick up of curriculum between 10 and 12 tomorrow. There will be lesson plans and all needed instructions to complete this week’s worth of lessons online. Later this week, our teachers will connect with your child and do some of the teaching through zoom.

Again, thank you for your support, prayers for wisdom, flexibility, and caring for our community. We are praying for you and your family. The office will be open at 9:00 to answer any of your questions.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn His face toward you and give you His peace.

Letter From Administration – COVID-19

Dear Parents,

We want to let you know that we are praying for you. We’ve been thinking and planning on how best to meet our school families’ needs, keep our community healthy, and plan for the unexpected. These are uncharted waters for our country and we are surrounded by many uncertainties. At this time, there are more questions than we have answers for. We are being proactive in cleaning the building and sanitizing all toys, resources, and surfaces. While we are preparing for this situation to last longer than 2 weeks, we are still hopeful it doesn’t. At this time, we are still planning on returning to school April 6. Don’t feel the pressure to try to teach your children at home during these next two weeks. Instead, try focusing on connecting and creating safe places in your home. Enjoy these extra 2 weeks at home with
your family.

Start new traditions…dinner together, praying and reading Scripture, memorizing Scripture, writing cards for our troops or elderly, baking, board games, playing cards (having kids keep score), create something together, puzzles, home projects, gardening, learning how to do laundry, change a tire, build something, etc. If you need some more resources, we have included a list of different websites with games, educational material, conversation starters, and exploring online tours of our National Parks, aquariums, museums, etc. Having your child read out loud 15-30 minutes a day goes such a long way. Possibly consider having them read to you as you fix dinner. Then after dinner you can read a chapter book (above their reading level) as a family. Then let your children act out their favorite scene from the chapter. Be creative! Have fun! Leave room to laugh and make memories together.

The last week has brought many changes to our daily lives. During chaotic times, it is easy to feel stressed, fearful, uneasy, and confused. These valid heart felt emotions often show up in our interactions and reactions with our families as anger. Let’s give our families and spouse’s room to deal with this time of uncertainties and create space to feel unconditional love and support from one another.

Our prayer is that your homes are filled with God’s peace that surpasses all understanding. John 14:27: Jesus speaking…“My peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Philippians 4:4-7: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

We are following the current events, staying connected with the Texas Health and Human Services, and going over and beyond the minimum standards. We will be in touch as we have more information. Feel free to follow our Facebook page and website as we will update that in the following weeks. Missio Dei Church invites you to stream the worship service online at the scheduled time. Visit the Missio Dei website or Facebook for updates.  We pray that your family is healthy and well. Please continue to look out for others and to be God’s hands and feet.

God’s rich blessings be yours,

Sunshine Christian School Administration and Missio Dei Church Leadership.
